Richard Weatherly
Working as a biologist and naturalist in Australasia, Europe, Africa and North America, Richard feels his art is a natural extension of his commitment to conservation and the environment.
His paintings are based on first hand experience: "I am motivated simply by personal excitement with some elusive moment in the wild, and a desire to share this involvement with others"
He began by exhibiting wood carving in London, but the following year his paintings were accepted for the World Wildlife Exhibition. His first solo exhibition was held in London's Sladmore Gallery. Several such exhibitions have since been held in Australia. His art work appears in many books and the monograph "The Fairy Wrens", which he illustrated, won the coveted Whitley Award. He has also been awarded a Gold Medal at the National Print Awards.
Richard regularly exhibits in the USA and his painting have been included in travelling exhibitions in the USA, Japan and China.
