Jodie Fergusson-Batte
Jodie was born in Melbourne and later lived in a number of places including Queensland and Darwin before finally moving to settle in Sydney where she is now based. Sydney is where Jodie found a strong and renewed passion for her painting which has lead to her focusing heavily on her art over the past years.
Jodie's paintings portray warmth and an insight into the dynamic and rich essence of life using vibrant colours and deep emotional tones. Seeking inspiration from her own life, Jodie has developed her own unique style that is easily recognizable at first glance.
When asked how she feels about her art Jodie explains it as an emotional experience that is in many ways therapeutic. All of her works stem from an experience or situation that she has been exposed to and express the feelings evoked.
"It is confronting being totally honest about yourself, your feelings and your insecurities but I believe that this is where my best work comes from. I also believe that the honesty in my work is one of the aspects that people are attracted to."
Jodie relates strongly to Francis Bacon's statement:
"The most important thing is to look at the painting, to read the poem, or to listen to the music. Not in order to understand or to know it but to feel something." |
